How old does my child need to be to volunteer?
Most events have been designed with ages 2-12 in mind. We will alert families in the event description if the event is geared toward a more narrow age range. Typically we welcome siblings outside this age range but the event may not be as meaningful or fulfilling for them. You know your child best, so unless we have specifically requested that kids under a certain age not attend, feel free to use your judgment about what type of event will be a good fit for your family.
How involved are parents at the events?
All children must have an adult with them at all times during Seeds of Caring events. We ask that parents actively participate alongside their children and guide them during the event. Close supervision is required to ensure a safe, rewarding experience for all event participants.
Do I need to bring proof of registration to the event?
You do not need to print your ticket or confirmation email. Your name will be on the attendee list at the event.
Is there a fee to participate in Seeds of Caring events?
Oftentimes, no. Sometimes, yes—when a nominal fee is required to cover the cost of event supplies. These fees are gathered at the time of your registration.
Do I have to register? Can I just show up the day of the event?
We ask that all families register for our events. It’s important for us to have a volunteer count prior to an event, and we frequently are faced with space and/or supply limitations.
What if I registered for an event but can no longer attend?
Volunteer attendance is critical. Please cancel your registration with as much lead time as possible. To cancel your registration, either email us at email@example.com or follow these steps: log in to your EventBrite account; hover over your name and click on "Tickets;" select the ticket for the event you wish to cancel; click "cancel order."
All events are full. What can I do?
Because so many families want to volunteer, the available spots at our service events often fill quickly. New service opportunities are posted on the 1st and 15th of each month, with the occasional last-minute event posted in between. Check our calendar frequently for new events and follow us on Facebook for event promotions. And realize that as Seeds of Caring grows, so will the number of events we are able to offer.
Can I sign up a group of families or children?
No. We ask that each family register on their own. This allows us to have a better understanding of who will be present at the event and to plan accordingly. We also send reminder emails with important details and want each family to receive this.
Is there a limit to the number of events I can sign up for?
No, but we ask that volunteer families be thoughtful of others who want to participate. Consider signing up for one or two events at a time, and only for events you are confident you have a clear calendar for. If you are unsure that you can actually attend on a specific date, hold off on registering and taking a spot until you are certain of your availability.
How can I maximize this experience for my child?
We suggest talking with your child before and/or after the event about why you chose to participate, what volunteering/community engagement means to you, and the social problem or social group (if any) the event is trying to help. We will provide you with specific resources to help guide your family's discussion, included in reminder emails. Also, we will send you home with a list of extension activities to continue the conversation and reflection at home.
Can I help Seeds of Caring in any other capacity?
